Executive Search: VP, Business Development to Chief Business Officer (Biotech)

I'm recruiting on behalf of a clinical-stage biotech company developing novel ophthalmic therapies for chronic eye diseases with limited treatment options. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic and results-oriented executive to lead Business Development, Corporate Strategy, and Investor Relations. Title will be VP or Chief Business Officer depending on experience.


Role Overview:

This executive will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for identifying and executing strategic partnerships, M&A, and financing initiatives. The company has a strong pipeline and is seeking someone with deep industry knowledge, particularly in ophthalmology, and a proven track record in investment banking and deal-making.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic transactions including licensing, collaborations, joint ventures, and M&A.
  • Shape long-term corporate strategy and portfolio prioritization.
  • Drive fundraising efforts and manage investor relations.
  • Oversee alliance management and ensure value realization.
  • Build and lead a high-performing business development and strategy team.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • 15+ years in pharma/biotech, with leadership in business development and strategy.
  • 5+ years in investment banking focused on life sciences.
  • Strong track record of closing high-value strategic deals.
  • Deep understanding of drug development, clinical trials, and regulatory pathways.
  • Excellent financial modeling, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in science or business; MBA preferred.
